Trekking Munduk Waterfall

September 19, 2016

Last weekend I brought Lala for camping trip to Lake Beratan in Bedugul, but before that we drove around Munduk area to visit a waterfall. After parked the car we have a short trekking Munduk waterfall around 15 minutes, and for me it’s quite suitable for our 2 years old Lala since the path to waterfall is not too steep especially with lala who doesn’t want to be carried during the trekking. So here is our how to and some tips if you plan to visit this one of beautiful waterfall in Bali.

How to Get to Munduk Waterfall

Munduk waterfall is around 80 km or 2,5 hour driving from Denpasar. It is located in Munduk area near Bedugul, not to far after Lake Buyan we will meet a small junction that direct us to Gitgit / Singaraja or to Seririt. Turn left to Seririt direction and you already arrive at Munduk village, the road is quite narrow and you can see Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan on the left side. Just follow the main road around 10 km until you meet a parking area on the left side that managed by local people. You need to pay IDR 5,000 per car for parking. Google Map.

After that you need to walk down around 15 minutes to reach the waterfall, just follow the path then turn left on the first junction you meet, but no worries since there are a sign to direct you to the waterfall. The best part during the trekking is you can feel the smell of clove from the clove trees around the path and dried clove on the side of the path. Some of local old woman also sell spices and drinks, we meet around 3 local warung that sell spices, they sell it from IDR 10.000 tp IDR 35.000 depend on the size and type of spices. And near the waterfall there is a small counter on the left side to pay an entrance fee IDR 10.000 per person.

Tips Trekking Munduk Waterfall

Trekking Munduk waterfall is quite easy but we still need to pay attention on safety, this is some tips from us before you visit this waterfall.

  • If you use a motorbike, you can drive your motorbike until the ticket locket that already really close to the waterfall.
  • Make sure you check a weather forecast, since Munduk area sometime very misty and it will be quite dangerous to drive there.
  • It’s better to come in the morning since in the afternoon this waterfall quite busy with a group of guest that was brought by some guide. When we arrived at the waterfall is around 10.00am there is only Me, Lala and 2 other guy; but when we walked back to parking area around 12.00am there is around 20 people that get ready to treking down to the waterfall.
  • If you bring kids, you can play to the side of the waterfall and the rive that flow from the waterfall to see some small fish in the really clear water.
  • The best time to visit this waterfall is on the dry season, since on the rainy season the water volume is so high and we can not walk near to the waterfall.

I have visited Gitgit but not yet Munduk waterfall. My family and I also enjoy trekking to the waterfalls, but we mostly trek to the waterfalls in our village. The waterfalls here is quite still virgin and the path is steep and challenging. We love the quietness and the adventurous path to get down to the massive waterfalls and to the big river Balian.
